Google Pixels take great photos and get years of updates, which makes them very worth repairing. Here are the Pixel problems we see most at our Ottawa shop, how each one is fixed, and when you should go to Google first.
The Pixel repairs we see most
Cracked screens
The most common Pixel repair. Replacement screens need to be OLED panels, because Pixels read your fingerprint through the screen; cheaper LCD-type screens can't do that. Batteries that drain fast or swell
A Pixel battery that no longer lasts the day is a quick swap. Swelling is more urgent: if the back or screen is lifting, stop charging the phone and read our swollen battery guide.
Charging ports
USB-C ports collect pocket lint, which stops the cable from seating properly. Often a cleaning fixes it; otherwise the port is replaced. Try our charging fixes first.
Camera bar and back glass
A cracked camera cover makes photos hazy and lets dust in. It's usually a quick repair, as is cracked back glass.
A swollen Pixel 7a battery? Check Google's program first
Google runs an Extended Repair Program for the Pixel 7a covering "unexpected battery swelling", with symptoms like visible swelling, a bulging or separating cover and much faster battery drain. Coverage lasts 3 years from the original purchase date, and Canada is included, with battery replacement at walk-in repair centres. If your 7a qualifies, that's your cheapest option. If it doesn't, we can replace the battery.
Google's repair options vs. an independent shop
- Under warranty? Go to Google. Its repair page says that in Canada you can visit Google walk-in repair centres for in-person, same-day repair.
- Handy with tools? Google sells genuine parts for self-repair.

Is your Pixel worth repairing?
Usually, yes. Google says the Pixel 8 and later get updates for 7 years, and the Pixel 6 and 7 for 5 years, counted from when each model first went on sale on the US Google Store. Frequently asked questions
Can you fix a cracked Pixel screen the same day?
Usually, yes, when the part is in stock. Pixels with an in-screen fingerprint reader take a little longer because the sensor has to be set up and tested after the new screen goes in.
Will my fingerprint sensor work after a Pixel screen replacement?
Yes, with a proper OLED replacement screen and the set-up step after the repair. You'll register your fingerprints again before you leave.
My Pixel 7a battery is swelling. What should I do?
